Legal, Ethical Issues and Medical Records for Health Professionals 

Ethical issues in healthcare revolve around the moral decision-making of health professionals. Laws and ethics for health professionals reflect the values and interests of the broader society. These values and interests tend to differ based on culture and country (Tulchinsky & Varavikova, 2014). However, professional codes of ethics help guide health professionals in the United States. While each code of ethics may differ, they have similar ethical requirements regarding patient-caregiver relationships, patient rights, and medical records. All health professionals must follow these codes when working with patients. Furthermore, health professionals are required to follow specific laws and HIPAA regulations. If they do not, health professionals may face criminal or civil penalties (Varkey, 2021). Being a health professional may be a rewarding job, but there are legal and ethical guidelines all health professionals must follow to ensure that all patients are receiving adequate care.
